Fueling the economy

A lot of people are fussing about the economy and the price of gasoline. Well, about everyone is fussing about what it costs to fill up at the gas station.
I, too, hope the economy will improve and that gasoline prices will moderate.
I have to wonder, however, with gasoline prices as high as they are, why the economy isn’t tanking more than it is.

Gas prices are definetly higher than they were, however, I don’t think the government has much of a role in regulating energy supplies. Supply and Demand will take care of the long term supply issues.
I do think the goverrment needs to be concerned with the effects of energy use on the environment and national security. Other than that, I see little reason for the government to get involved in the issue…..
When people stop buying bottled water I’ll believe the price of gas is a serious problem…..
I don’t understand the reasons for not allowing drilling in the coastal waters of the US? Seriously, whats the rationale? I heard the other day that not a single well in the Gulf of Mexico created a environmental problem from Katrina, so whats the environmental issue?
