Governor-elect Bev Perdue is headed to Philadelphia today to meet with President-elect Barack Obama, Vice President-elect Joe Biden and other governors to discuss the states’ economic issues.
At the meeting, the governors and governors-elect will discuss a federal-state partnership with Obama. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Perdue’s transition office says that the new governor could be facing a budget gap as high as $3 billion next year. Her main goals are to create jobs, revitalize the economy, protect education “and other essential services and balance the state budget,” Perdue’s office says.
She hopes the meeting will be her first opportunity to share information about areas in which the federal economic stimulus package can be put to best use in North Carolina, her office says.
