The governor’s encounter with a bear

You’ve probably heard about Gov. Bev Perdue’s recent spotting of a bear during her trip to the mountains.

Perdue, after learning that a bear had been spotted near the Governor’s Western Residence in Asheville, peaked outside the residence and saw a bear just 20 to 30 feet from the building. The sighting has prompted the N.C. Sporting Dog Association to come to the aid of the governor.

Joe McClees, a lobbyist for the organization, sent the following letter to the governor:

Dear Governor Perdue:

The NC Sporting Dog Association is a coalition of North Carolinians who hunt with dogs.  The NC Bear Hunters Association is a founding member of our organization, and we have bear hunters from the mountains to the coast.

Governor, we were sorry to hear you had a scary experience with a bear.  North Carolina’s bear hunters stand ready to assist you. Call us anytime you need help with a bear.

We want our Governor to stay safe and keep doing what she must do to restore North Carolina’s financial stability.  You are doing a great job.  We are proud of you!

You take care of the budget and we will take care of the bears.

Best personal regards from North Carolina hunters from Murphy to Manteo.
