Policy director takes issue with GOP agenda

N.C. Policy Watch Executive Director Chris Fitzsimon takes issue with the state Republicans’ 100 Days that Will Change North Carolina agenda.

In his column, Fitzsimon File, he contests the assertion made by Republican leaders that the state has suffered through years of too much spending, resulting in high taxes.

“Taxes aren’t the problem,” Fitzsimon asserts. He also says that the agenda has other problems. On a call by House GOP Leader Paul “Skip” Stam of Wake County to slice the education bureaucracy in favor of classroom spending, Fitzsimon says that “there’s little more to cut.” He also says that some other talking points, such as annexation reform and voter ID laws, are “a solution in desperate need of a problem.”

Fitzsimon concludes that the 100-day plan as more like a collection of bumper stickers and slogans than a real agenda.
